Sunday, November 23rd: Shingles and the Shingles Vaccine

Dr. Lee Christenson and Hope’s Parish Nurses will lead discussion on shingles and the new shingles vaccine. Shingles causes a rash with blisters that usually lasts for two to four weeks. The pain associated with the blisters can be quite intense. Once this initial phase is over, nerve pain can set in. This pain lasts anywhere from 30 days to months or even years. It can be so severe in some people that it disrupts their lives.  Singles is most common in people over the age of 60.

Sunday, December 14th: New CPR Guidelines

Do you feel like you will never remember all of those compression to breath ratios? Are you scared you might get it all wrong in an actual emergency?  New CPR instructions have recently been approved and have simplified the guidelines for CPR, eliminating mouth-to-mouth breathing. Hope’s Parish Nurses will lead us through the new instructions.  Even if you have taken a CPR course in the past, this session will be a good refresher.  This forum will not certify you in CPR
Bus Trip to the Concordia Christmas Concert in Moorhead, Dec. 7th

Pastor Phil has already ordered our tickets for the 82nd Annual Concordia College Christmas Concert on Sunday afternoon, December 7th.   This year’s theme is "Savior of the Nations---Come," and will feature music from around the world and illuminate Christ's message of hope.   Several times throughout the concert, singers and instrumentalists will perform among the audience, filling the hall with music, narration, lighting and art. Christ comes to the world in glory and nations are invited to seek a common message of hope.   Over 400 Concordia student musicians are involved in the five choirs and symphony orchestra, under the artistic direction of world-renowned composer and conductor Dr. René Clausen, in this rich tradition of celebrating the Christmas season.   We will meet following the 10:30 am worship, and our chartered coach bus will depart Hope’s parking lot at 11:45, and arrive in time for the 3 pm concert, and our group’s reserved seats will be in the permanent seating.   Following the concert, supper will be at the Grand Buffet in Fargo, where we ate last year following the concert.   The cost is only $40.00, and includes the concert ticket, bus seat, and buffet supper.  Seats are limited, so reserve your place on the bulletin board outside the church office, or call the church at 547-1850.

News from our seminarian

Classes are in full swing here in Dubuque as the leaves turn and start to fall. Aside from tests, papers, and readings CPE is on my mind. CPE or Clinical Pastoral Education is in an 11 week summer intership that I will be participating in this summer. Typically, CPE is served in a hospital setting as a chaplain. Offerings can vary greatly from site to site, some places offer stipends and housing and others
